1. No guarantees
Thrift Scanner uses artificial intelligence to identify secondhand items from photographs and to estimate what they may be worth. We make no guarantees, representations, or warranties — express or implied — about the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any identification, description, value estimate, demand rating, selling suggestion, or other information produced or presented by the service.
2. AI limitations
AI models can make mistakes, misread labels and markings, or produce inaccurate results (commonly referred to as “hallucinations”). The AI may identify the wrong brand, model, or item altogether, misstate the era, materials, or condition, invent comparable prices, or describe something that is not in the photo at all. Photographs alone are often insufficient to distinguish genuine items from reproductions or to detect hidden damage, and lighting, angle, focus, and background all affect what the model can see.
3. User responsibility
You are solely responsible for how you use AI estimates and any other information on Thrift Scanner. Always verify important details independently — through recent sold listings, a qualified appraiser, dealer, or authentication service, or authoritative reference materials — before buying, selling, pricing, or valuing an item.
4. Not safety advice
Identifications and descriptions must not be used to determine whether an item is safe to use, wear, clean, repair, plug in, or give to a child, or whether it contains hazardous materials such as lead paint, asbestos, mercury, mold, or flammable finishes, or whether it is subject to a product recall. Check the manufacturer, official recall databases, and a qualified professional before using any secondhand item of uncertain origin.
5. Not professional advice
Nothing produced or presented by Thrift Scanner constitutes a professional appraisal, authentication, grading, or financial, tax, legal, or business advice. Any value ranges, demand ratings, and selling suggestions are rough, AI-generated estimates for general interest only — they are not professional appraisals and should not be used for insurance, tax, estate, lending, or dispute purposes, and they do not guarantee that an item will sell at any price.
6. Authenticity and counterfeits
Thrift Scanner cannot authenticate branded or designer goods. Any comments about authenticity are observations about what is visible in a photograph, not a determination that an item is genuine. Selling counterfeit goods is illegal in most places; verify authenticity through the brand or a recognised authentication service before listing an item as genuine.
7. User-provided information
Estimates may rely on photographs and notes submitted by users. We do not verify user-provided information, and results that depend on it may be affected by its accuracy.
8. Community content
Public finds shared to the community feed and shown on search and tag pages are AI-generated content submitted by other users. They carry the same limitations described here and have not been reviewed by experts.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Thrift Scanner and its affiliates will not be liable for any loss or damage arising from reliance on AI-generated identifications, descriptions, value estimates, or selling suggestions, or on any other content presented by the service, including financial loss, lost sales, property damage, or personal injury.
10. Changes to this disclaimer
We may update this disclaimer from time to time. Continued use of the service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated disclaimer. By using Thrift Scanner, you acknowledge and accept these limitations.
